LIVING IN KINSHIP

reVision's work has always been to see our youth differently. The young people of reVision are challenged every day with issues both systemic and life-threatening. Many of them have had injustices heaped upon them. They live in the most neglected communities in Houston. They have been viewed as problematic by many of the adults in their lives. They are caught up in systems that often overwhelm them. We see our young people as children of God with inherent dignity and potential. We are building a community of kinship that leaves no one out. In the words of our friend Father Greg Boyle, "there is no 'us' and 'them', there is only 'us'”.

Current events have put racism within the criminal justice system in the spotlight. reVision stands with the movement for black lives to disentangle African American youth from any level of justice involvement. We are witness to the pain and suffering of marginalized people in our community and our country. The youth we work with are among those who experience it. We want to revise the way all of us see our young people, our city, and ourselves.

Until all of our youth are on a positive path, free from racism and free from system-imposed limits that come from the incorrect belief that some people are worth less, our work will continue.
